Patient safety and compliance technology provider ObservSMART and Mount Sinai Medical Center are set to enhance their strategic partnership to include the latter’s emergency centres.

The strategic collaboration continues to increase patient safety for behavioural health patients within their three emergency centres across Miami-Dade County.

Mount Sinai will incorporate ObservSMART into its behavioural health and emergency centres to continue its commitment to improving safety and the level of personalised care received by each patient.

ObservSMART vice-president Noreen Gottfried said: “We have enjoyed a successful partnership with Mount Sinai Medical Center and are looking forward to improving and ensuring patient safety within new departments.”

The portable rounding technology of ObservSMART leverages Bluetooth proximity and patient wearables for monitoring higher acuity patients.

With ObservSMART's Tablet App staff will receive real-time reminders to check on patients.

By receiving alerts for missed observations or other types of safety concerns, supervisors will be able to intervene and provide feedback to their staff.

The continued partnership between ObservSMART and Mount Sinai highlights a focus on improvement in terms of quality, driven by innovation in healthcare, data-driven insights, as well as a joint dedication to improving the safety of both staff and patients.

ObservSMART, developed by InvisALERT Solutions, is a proximity-based compliance tool that can be customised and designed to address complex workflow demands.

The software helps maximise patient safety and reduces errors, risks, and costs related to sentinel and non-sentinel events.

In October, Mount Sinai announced a partnership with maternity care clinic Oula to launch a new clinic in Morningside Heights, New York City, US. The clinic is scheduled to open towards the end of next year.

Mount Sinai is a not-for-profit teaching hospital in Florida, US.

Healthcare industry continues to be highly vulnerable to cyberattacks

Cybersecurity is a growing market in the medical devices sector for several reasons. Medical devices often collect and contain vulnerable data, such as patient medical information. Legacy medical devices are a cause for concern because they likely were not designed with cyberattacks in mind. With the adoption of EHR systems, telemedicine measures, mobile health apps, and other connected devices, there is increased vulnerability to cyberattacks.
