OhioHealth is set to open its new facility, OhioHealth Pickerington Methodist Hospital, at 1010 Refugee Road in Pickerington, US, on 6 December 2023.

This hospital will cover more than 30 acres of undeveloped land, expanding from the northern portion of the existing OhioHealth Pickerington Medical Campus.

Covering a total area of 230,000ft², the hospital will comprise 96 inpatient beds.

It will feature six operating rooms, two procedure rooms, a maternity unit for labour and delivery, a special care nursery, a 20-bay infusion clinic, and a 12-bed intensive care/acuity adaptable unit.

Said to be OhioHealth’s 15th hospital, the new facility will be equipped to provide a variety of services including surgery and women’s health.

Other services include acute and speciality care, primary care, sports medicine, cancer care, heart and vascular, stroke care with a stroke interventional suite, and imaging, lab, pharmacy and rehabilitation.

The hospital project is said to have created over 500 new jobs.

Pickerington Methodist president DPM Kevin Lutz said: “Since opening in 2015, the OhioHealth Pickerington Medical Campus has proudly served the community and its healthcare needs.

“Now, with the opening of the hospital, we’re thrilled to expand our already robust services with new capabilities that will save and improve the lives of our patients.”

OhioHealth said the Pickerington hospital will offer new smart room technology, to ease communication between patients and caregivers.

These include digital patient education, a digital meal ordering platform, real-time patient data access via digital door signage, as well as in-room video capabilities.

Lutz added: "We are so excited to be bringing this kind of technology to Pickerington. It’s going to be a game-changer in terms of patient experience and it’s also going to allow our care teams to work more efficiently to deliver the highest quality of care.”

The aging population is a captive market for medical devices

The rising number of older individuals globally is accompanied by increasing health concerns, presenting unique demand for the medical device industry. With rising pressure on governments, payers, and manufacturers to reduce healthcare costs, innovative medical technologies have tremendous potential to improve elder care. Advancements in medical device technology have resulted in a significant increase in the number of conditions that can be managed in a home care setting. To capitalize on this strong demand and growth, manufacturers are increasingly producing consumer-targeted equipment.
