The Ontario Government in Canada has awarded a contract to M. Sullivan & Son for the construction of the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital (PECMH).

Construction of the healthcare facility tailored to the local community's current and future needs is planned to commence in the coming weeks.

This hospital will be equipped with advanced equipment and facilities, including a 24-hour emergency department, a helipad, a procedural suite, a dialysis unit, and additional specialisations.

With construction to begin soon, the community and partners will have the opportunity to preview the design and learn about the construction process later this year.

The new PECMH is designed to be an advanced healthcare facility, with a focus on sustainability, featuring natural light in the atrium, energy-efficient windows, and sustainable materials.

The hospital will have 23 inpatient beds and an acute inpatient unit, with support from physicians within the Prince Edward Family Health Team.

Other amenities will comprise ambulatory care, including clinics, procedure rooms and medical device reprocessing and medical day care, as well as diagnostic imaging, such as x-ray, ultrasound, mammography, and access to other hospitals of Quinte Health, secondary care in Belleville, and tertiary care in Kingston.

Additional features include an inpatient pharmacy, a satellite haemodialysis unit, ambulatory care, diagnostic imaging services, and a central laboratory.

Infrastructure Ontario and Quinte Health chose M. Sullivan & Son after a thorough and competitive procurement process that began in March this year.

In June this year, the Ontario Government announced plans to open a new Youth Wellness Hub in Brampton to support young people’s mental health and connect them to substance use services.
