US-based opioid addiction care provider Ophelia has collaborated with Vori Health, a musculoskeletal (MSK) and orthopaedic practice, to improve patients' access to safe opioid use disorder (OUD) care services.

The partnership aims to address pain management in an opioid-free way for patients suffering from chronic pain and opioid addiction, as well as people in recovery seeking opioid-free MSK care.

It allows Vori Health medical staff to refer patients who report opioid addiction to Ophelia.

Ophelia co-founder and CEO Zack Gray said: "Integrating MSK and SUD treatment is critical to ensuring that patients do not have to choose between the discomfort of chronic pain and the risk of opioid addiction.

"This partnership between Ophelia and Vori Health represents a shared commitment to holistic patient care and a belief in technology to unify specialists across a common platform."

Based in New York, Ophelia works to provide medications as addiction treatment for OUD through counselling and behavioural therapies.

Medical professionals can alternatively refer Ophelia patients to Vori Health for treatment if they express concern about MSK discomfort and seek non-opioid treatment options.

Vori Health co-founder and CEO Dr Ryan Grant said: "By offering virtual care solutions, Vori Health can provide patients with access to evidence-based specialty care for MSK pain that cuts opioids out of the equation.

"When patients arrive at our doorstep already struggling with opioid dependency, our collaboration with Ophelia gives us the assurance they will receive top-tier opioid addiction treatment from a team of experts who share our unwavering dedication to delivering cost-effective, evidence-based care to those who need it most."

Based in Tennessee, Vori Health offers full service physical medicine and rehabilitation care, physical therapy, prescriptions, imaging and lab ordering, as well as health coaching, nutritional guidance, community support and premium instructional content.

Is it time for the healthcare sector to fully embrace the benefits of digitalization and AI?

Primarily due to COVID-19, the healthcare sector has witnessed an acceleration in digital transformation, which has improved efficiencies and enhanced patient outcomes. AI can revolutionize the drug discovery process and significantly reduce the time and cost to get a drug to market, particularly in areas of unmet need. However, using healthcare data for AI development raises data privacy concerns, thereby limiting its adoption.
