The Hospitals Transformation Programme (HTP) in Shropshire, Telford, Wrekin, and mid Wales has progressed towards securing investment for enhancing hospital services.  

The Outline Business Case (OBC) for the transformation of hospital services at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) receives formal approval in the latest stage of national endorsement. 

This HTP aims to establish two specialised hospitals, with the Princess Royal Hospital focusing on planned care and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital specialising in emergency care.  

Following OBC approval by the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England, and HM Treasury, SaTH is now gearing up for the final stage, the Full Business Case (FBC).  

Funding has been allocated to initiate enabling works for the transformation and support the completion of the FBC.  

The Independent Reconfiguration Panel (IRP) report endorses the HTP, stating it is the best way to enhance acute hospital services in the region.  

The Trust ensures ongoing community-based service development, reducing waiting times, and improving patient experiences. 

Commenting on the development, The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust CEO Louise Barnett said: “This is positive news for our local communities and colleagues, bringing us another step closer to delivering sustainable, high quality health care for everyone through two thriving hospitals. 

“We are focusing now on progressing the enabling works and preparing the Full Business Case for approval which is the final step in the process. 

“We value the feedback from our communities and teams as we take this critical programme forward and I would encourage members of the public to participate in our series of focus groups and engagement events.”
