Construction of the new $232m Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center in Midland, Texas, US, is advancing, with Robins & Morton at the helm of the project.

Situated on a 54-acre site, this 200-bed facility is set to provide comprehensive short-term and long-term psychiatric care across all age groups.

It will feature a crisis stabilisation unit, an outpatient centre, various facilities, and a community education centre.

The Texas Facilities Commission is developing the facility, which will be managed by a newly formed entity jointly sponsored by the Midland County Hospital District and the Ector County Hospital District.

State funding and contributions from individuals and charitable organisations in the Permian Basin support the project.

A ceremonial topping out took place in mid-December, marking a milestone in the construction process.

The structural steel installation is on the agenda to be completed by February 2025, with the entire project expected to be finalised and ready for occupancy by early 2026.

Robins & Morton is the appointed general contractor while HKS is responsible for the project’s architectural design.

Robins & Morton division manager Eric Groat said: “As we near the topping out milestone, we’re excited about the progress of this project that will help meet the growing need for behavioural healthcare services in Texas.

“We are getting closer to delivering this facility, which will serve our community for many years to come.”

Before this development, Robins & Morton completed a new $120m care facility for the Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority (CIHA) in North Carolina.

The two-storey, 131,000ft² long-term care facility, the Tsali Care Center, contains 120 private resident rooms.
