SSM Health has revealed plans for a new children’s hospital at Chouteau Avenue and Grand Boulevard in St Louis, Missouri, US, to meet the surging need for specialised neonatal and paediatric services.
The new Cardinal Glennon paediatric hospital will include more than 200 in-patient beds across 14 storeys.
The new paediatric academic hospital will provide expanded and enhanced services that include a neonatal intensive care unit, intensive care unit, and cancer, cardiology, and dialysis care. It will also feature large areas to accommodate families.
Construction of the new facility is planned to be completed in 2027.
SSM Health president and CEO Laura S Kaiser said: “Cardinal Glennon plays a critical role in SSM Health’s Mission and Vision to transform health care delivery and ensure all people have access to high-quality, affordable, and sustainable health care services to live their fullest and healthiest lives.
“This investment will ensure we’re able to continue meeting the evolving needs of our community’s most vulnerable infants, children and adolescents for future generations.”
SSM chose McCarthy Buildings Companies to lead the design-build team for the new multiyear hospital project.
The design-build team comprises architecture and design business HKS and planning and design company Lawrence Group.
In a press statement, SSM said: “Today’s announcement is another milestone in SSM Health’s more than 150-year commitment to investing in St Louis city’s workforce and economic development - while ensuring access to high-quality, compassionate and affordable care.”
