Sustainable energy solutions provider Powerpire has announced an initiative to establish health clinics and mobile medical units powered by solar energy across disaster-stricken areas in Africa.

This initiative, in partnership with various organisations, is set to address the urgent need for medical services and sustainable energy in regions devastated by natural disasters.

The aftermath of catastrophes such as floods, earthquakes, and droughts often leaves healthcare systems in disarray and medical services inaccessible.

Powerpire's strategy is to mitigate these issues by introducing solar-powered solutions that bolster healthcare while providing renewable energy to communities in need.

The clinics and mobile units will be grid-independent, ensuring constant access to critical medical equipment and services.

This self-sufficient model is crucial for remote areas and contributes to the resilience and environmental sustainability of these communities.

The use of solar energy in healthcare facilities offers independence from traditional power sources and also lessens environmental impact and fossil fuel dependence, aligning with a greener future.

Powerpire director Maximilia Ivarsson said: “These units will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment, including diagnostic tools, telehealth capabilities, and essential medications.

“Additionally, they will serve as hubs for medical professionals to offer comprehensive healthcare services, including primary care, vaccinations, maternal care, and emergency response.”

Powerpire's efforts resonate with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).

To ensure the durability of these facilities, Powerpire and its partners will focus on building local capacities. Training in maintenance and operation will be provided, enabling communities to manage their healthcare services.
