Providence Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, US, has collaborated with wraparound maternal healthcare company Mahmee to expand breastfeeding services.

This collaboration aims to improve the centre's postpartum and lactation care services while providing comprehensive support for new parents after they leave the hospital.

Beginning this month, Mahmee's international board-certified lactation consultants will offer personalised support immediately following delivery.

Providence Saint John's patients will gain access to a complimentary Mahmee membership in the month following delivery.

The membership will allow patients to access a dedicated team of professionals, including nurses, doulas, lactation consultants, mental health coaches, nutrition coaches, and care coordinators, who will be available every day of the week.

Patients will have access to benefits such as the continuous monitoring of postpartum vital signs, support groups and classes, unlimited messaging support, and more.

Mahmee stated that the latest partnership represents a significant advancement in establishing a safety net for the postpartum period of Providence Saint John's patients.

The postpartum period, as the company describes, is a particularly vulnerable time for mothers and birthing people, as routine medical visits diminish and travelling for appointments becomes more challenging.

Providence Saint John’s Health Center Women's Health & Wellness Institute executive medical director Tiffany Grunwald said: “Our decision to have Mahmee's consultants available on-site from day one is a testament to our commitment to ensuring every mother can start feeding her baby with confidence and expertise.”

With the hospital handling thousands of deliveries annually, the collaborative effort aims to ensure that all patients, regardless of their insurance coverage or income level, receive the essential care they need.

Mahmee co-founder and care programmes director Linda Hanna said: “Our partnership with Providence Saint John’s aims to alleviate the difficulties that new mothers and families face after birth. As veteran maternal health care practitioners, we know how to make this transition as smooth and nurturing as possible.”
