US-based non-profit Catholic health system Providence has expanded its partnership with Xsolis, an AI-powered health technology company.

The decision will introduce AI-driven operational efficiencies to a further 28 hospitals across Alaska, New Mexico, Texas, Montana, Oregon and Washington.

In October last year, Providence first implemented Xsolis AI solutions across its eight Oregon hospitals.

By adopting the AI technology, the health system aims to reduce administrative overhead and provide more support for care teams.

It also intends to provide networked health plans with access to Xsolis' shared platform, real-time updates and predictive analytics.

Providence clinical and revenue cycle applications group vice-president Adar Palis said: “Expanding our collaboration with Xsolis not only streamlines crucial utilisation review processes but also sets a new standard in healthcare by leveraging AI to focus our valuable clinical resources on our core mission—caring for our patients and serving the communities across the Pacific Northwest and beyond.”

Xsolis said the implementation of its AI and predictive analytics has already resulted in 'significant benefits' for Providence, including a 32% reduction in observation length of stay, facilitating more timely patient discharges.

Xsolis’ technology, particularly its proprietary Care Level Score, is claimed to have been instrumental in streamlining review processes.

The AI-powered analysis of medical necessity based on evidence-based medicine has delivered more than 2.7 billion predictions worldwide since 2013.

The Care Level Score is designed to help reduce administrative load, save time and enhance coordination among healthcare teams.

Xsolis CEO and co-founder Joan Butters said: “As one of the nation’s leading health systems, Providence’s is a compelling story about applying purpose-built AI solutions to elevate the work of clinical staff to focus on the most important tasks.

“By challenging the status quo and embracing AI-driven solutions, Providence has demonstrated how technology can be leveraged to improve operational efficiency, enhance care coordination, and ultimately the patient experience.”
