UAE-based healthcare network PureHealth has begun a partnership with the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI).

The partners aim to use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the overall health and well-being of people in the UAE and contribute to increasing global life expectancies.

Aspects they will cover include collaborative research projects, opportunities for MBZUAI students and internships and placements.

PureHealth and MBZUAI will also focus on organising 'hackathons' to address complex issues in healthcare operations, supply chains, AI in healthcare and data analytics.

PureHealth staff will have access to customised special executive education courses to enhance their knowledge and skills in this domain.

With the expertise of MBZUA, PureHealth will be able to implement AI applications to improve value-based healthcare.

The first workshop focused on future collaborations in research and innovation, specifically in advancing longevity through AI in healthcare, addressing operational challenges and the use of AI for diagnosis and treatment.

PureHealth said these themes align well with its aim to create a future-proof Cloud Hospital.

Researchers are currently developing PureScore, an AI-driven longevity score that will lead the way in healthcare as the region's first evidence-based, dynamic score.

PureHealth managing director and CEO Farhan Malik said: “By combining our expertise with the cutting-edge capabilities of MBZUAI, we embark on a transformative journey that contributes to enriching the efforts aimed at shaping the future of healthcare for the people of the UAE and beyond.

“Our collaborative efforts will empower individuals to take control of their wellbeing to lead longer, healthier and happier lives. Together, we take a bold stride towards a healthier, more resilient future for all.”

Last week, PureHealth acquired IT company PureCS ahead of its upcoming initial public offering.

PureCS was responsible for delivering the UAE’s national digital health project, Riayati, which has digitised more than 17 million unique electronic medical records.

The aging population is a captive market for medical devices

The rising number of older individuals globally is accompanied by increasing health concerns, presenting unique demand for the medical device industry. With rising pressure on governments, payers, and manufacturers to reduce healthcare costs, innovative medical technologies have tremendous potential to improve elder care. Advancements in medical device technology have resulted in a significant increase in the number of conditions that can be managed in a home care setting. To capitalize on this strong demand and growth, manufacturers are increasingly producing consumer-targeted equipment.
