Qatar’s Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has deployed artificial intelligence (AI)-powered cancer diagnostics and therapeutics provider Lunit’s INSIGHT MMG solution in its "Screen for Life", a national breast and bowel cancer screening programme.

Lunit INSIGHT MMG is an AI-driven breast cancer detection offering.

It intends to boost early breast cancer detection to cut down missed diagnoses and enhance survival rates in Qatar's triennial screening programme.

With the latest development, Qatar is said to have become the first country in the Middle East to implement AI on a national level for breast cancer screening.

The partnership is set for an initial five-year period with the goal of improving early detection and reducing missed diagnoses of breast cancer.

The successful nationwide adoption of Lunit's AI solution follows a retrospective validation phase that commenced in March last year.

Now, each mammogram is read by two radiologists who refer to the AI-generated results from Lunit INSIGHT MMG, enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of the screening process.

Apart from Qatar, the solution is deployed in Australia by BreastScreen New South Wales.

In Sweden, the technology is used at Capio S:t Göran Hospital, marking the first instance where one human reader was replaced by AI in breast screening.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia saw the Lunit INSIGHT suite provided to Seha Virtual Hospital, connecting more than 150 hospitals.

Lunit CEO Brandon Suh said: “Our collaboration with Qatar's PHCC for the 'Screen for Life' will equip healthcare providers with a powerful new tool to enhance medical diagnostics.

“As we expand into national screening programmes worldwide, we're enhancing early cancer detection and reshaping preventive care. Each implementation brings us closer to our vision of making AI-assisted cancer screening more accurate and accessible to people around the world, regardless of their location.”
