August 21 2023

The new Redlands Satellite Hospital in Queensland, Australia is set to open to patients from 28th of this month.

It will include a minor illness and injury clinic to treat sprains, strains, simple fractures, head injuries without losing consciousness, as well as other urgent cases.

Open daily from 8am to 10pm, the clinic will offer medical imaging on-site.

Built at a cost of A$43.8m ($28m), the new hospital will serve people living in Redlands Coast and Bay Islands.

Co-named Talwalpin Milbul in honour of the region’s First Nations people, it will also feature cancer day therapy and kidney dialysis units.

Redlands Member Kim Richards stated: “This will make such a significant difference in the lives of many people - particularly those who access kidney dialysis and cancer day therapy services.”

The facility will be staffed by a team of over 100 comprising doctors, nurses, operational staff, allied health practitioners, and administration officers.

Minister for Health, Mental Health, and Ambulance Services Shannon Fentiman: “Queenslanders deserve the best health care, no matter where the live, and this facility will take pressure off the Redland’s Hospital and emergency department.

“The Redland Hospital Modular Expansion project is well underway and will add 28 new acute inpatient beds to the region, further reducing the pressures we’ve been seeing across the state.”

This project forms part of the Government of Queensland’s A$377m ($241.47m) Satellite Hospital Program, which aims to deliver seven healthcare facilities in South East Queensland’s growing communities.

Later this year and next year, similar facilities are planned to launch in Bribie Island, Eight Mile Plains, Kallangur, Ripley, and Tugun.
