Saint Vincent Hospital, located in Massachusetts, US, has partnered with video surveillance company Axis Communications and security firm Village Security to bolster the safety of its patients, staff, and visitors.

The hospital has modernised its security infrastructure, covering nearly 300-bed facility, with access control and video surveillance systems.

This move not only enhances the hospital's security capabilities but also ensures compliance with Laura's Law, a state mandate aimed at improving emergency responses and accessibility.

Saint Vincent Hospital Facilities and Support Services market director Darrell Boling said: “Saint Vincent Hospital is one of the first hospitals in Massachusetts to fully comply with Laura’s Law, and our partnership with Axis and Village Security enables us to meet the highest standards of safety.”

The hospital, known for its diverse medical specialties including robotic surgery, neonatal care, oncology, and cardiology, now has a security solution that delivers real-time information, crucial for swift emergency responses and life-saving interventions.

The implementation of this technology is particularly timely, as it coincides with the holiday season, a period typically marked by an uptick in hospital and emergency visits.

To address the requirements of Laura's Law, Saint Vincent Hospital has installed emergency call boxes equipped with 2N IP Verso security intercoms at all public entrances.

These installations are complemented by better lighting and clear signage to aid individuals in distress.

Additionally, the call boxes feature assistive listening technology to accommodate those with hearing impairments, meeting the law's mandate for duress alarms at main entrances.

Over 100 Axis cameras, including dome, panoramic, and multi-directional models, have replaced the outdated analog network, providing coverage of the hospital's grounds.

The system also comprises the AXIS License Plate Verifier for vehicle monitoring, AXIS Camera Station software for efficient security management, and various alarm systems for immediate alert response.

Critical areas such as the employee garage, loading dock, emergency department, and ambulance bay are now equipped with 2N IP Verso and 2N IP Force video intercoms, enabling direct communication with security personnel.

The inclusion of an induction loop system underscores the hospital's commitment to full accessibility for individuals with hearing disabilities.
