Several Kolkata hospitals gear up for cancer care 

Narayana Hospitals will embark on a big project in 2024, including the addition of an oncology unit.

Several private hospitals in Kolkata, a city in Indian state of West Bengal, are expanding their cancer care facilities and adding beds for various specialties in 2024, reported Times of India

Among these hospitals, Ruby General Hospital is set to augment its capacity with 180 more beds, including 80 in its cancer unit, enhancing its existing oncology bed count of 100 and total capacity of 316.  

Additionally, a hundred beds will be incorporated into its multispecialty unit. 

Woodlands Multispecialty Hospital is in the process of establishing an advanced oncology unit, and a project to add 100 beds to the existing premises is underway, with completion expected in two years. 

Narayana Hospitals will embark on a big project in 2024, including the addition of an oncology unit.  

In the initial phase, the number of oncology beds could reach around 75, the report said.  

Meanwhile, Narayana Superspecialty Hospital in Howrah will see 150 functional beds by February, transforming it into a 500-bed facility.  

The hospital, primarily focused on cancer care, also has plans for a postgraduate institute for research. 

Medica Superspecialty Hospital plans to expand existing facilities in cities such as Siliguri and Ranchi, introducing new cancer hospitals in Asansol and Rangapani, accompanied by the installation of a linear accelerator. 

Architectural plans for a 150,000ft2 built-up area at Medica North Bengal Clinic in Siliguri have been finalised. 

BP Poddar Hospital is set to include a radiation unit and 200 beds.  

The new phase's construction is complete, with one or two floors expected to start functioning within a month, and the rest are expected to be operational by May this year.  

Additionally, a senior citizen care wing is being established at the hospital. 

Desun Hospital is gearing up to unveil a 200-bed cancer unit equipped with Linac and advanced facilities, complementing its existing 100-bed cancer unit.
