The acquisition comes as many ASCs are outsourcing RCM due to staffing challenges.

Surgical Information Systems (SIS), a company in clinical surgical software for ambulatory surgery centres (ASCs), has acquired Surgical Notes, a provider of ASC-focused revenue cycle management (RCM), transcription, and coding services.

This move is a strategic effort to bolster SIS' mission to support ASCs in achieving clinical, operational, and financial success through smart operations.

The acquisition comes as many ASCs are outsourcing RCM due to staffing challenges and the increasing complexity of billing processes.

SIS's emphasis on RCM solutions will be enhanced by Surgical Notes' expertise in billing, coding, and transcription.

The acquisition will allow SIS to offer a broader range of cost-effective solutions specifically designed for surgery centres.

SIS has reported a five-year average annual growth of nearly 20% in its existing RCM business, indicating a rising demand for revenue cycle and related services within the ASC market.

SIS CEO Tom Stampiglia said: “Acquiring Surgical Notes enables us to further enhance our offerings and serve a broader customer base.

"Combining SIS’ existing product and services expertise with Surgical Notes’ RCM and transcription services will help us meet the increasing need for cost-effective solutions that accelerate revenue cycles, increasing collections and improving financial performance.”

Surgical Notes CEO Randy Bishop said: “Joining forces with SIS, an industry software leader, is a win for ASCs, our customers, and our employees.

"SIS is able to provide a comprehensive solution, offering facilities the choice to leverage technology for in-house staff or to outsource their RCM needs entirely."

The integration of Surgical Notes' billing platform with ASC practice management systems will allow SIS to extend its service offerings to all ASCs, delivering revenue cycle solutions that leverage data analytics, business intelligence, and automation.

Additionally, Surgical Notes brings to the table ScanChart ASC, a chart automation and document management solution, further expanding SIS's capabilities in the ASC sector.

Tom Stampiglia added: “We are excited to work with the talented Surgical Notes team and their prestigious base of customers, which in combination enables us to serve over 2,700 ASCs and hospitals.”
