Groundbreaking of the facility is anticipated in 2026, with the construction completion targeted for late 2028.

SoHum Health has announced the advancement to the next design phase for the construction of new healthcare facility at Garberville in the US state of California.

Designed by Ratcliff Architect, the project is aimed at serving Southern Humboldt and surrounding communities and will feature a modern two-storey hospital and clinic.

The new construction is a response to the current Garberville Hospital and Clinic's inability to meet upcoming seismic requirements.

This proposed facility estimated at $75m will span nearly 30,000ft2. It will be divided into two sections: a hospital and a primary care clinic, both located at 286 Sprowel Creek Road.

The hospital will have an eight-bed emergency department; radiology services including X-Ray, CT, Ultrasound, and Mobile MRI; a full-service laboratory; and dining options with an outdoor seating space.

It will also have a Helistop for expedited patient transfers and the second floor housing an inpatient nursing unit with ten beds.

The Community Clinic, approximately 15,000ft2, will offer a full-service primary care facility with two specialty treatment rooms; 12 exam rooms; a mammography suite; bone density scanning; a second-floor outpatient surgery suite; and a meditation park for patients and families.

The Redwood Playhouse building will be preserved to provide additional health services and meeting rooms.

Timeline of the project includes submitting designs for state permitting by mid-2025, followed by bidding after permits and financing are secured.

Groundbreaking is anticipated in 2026, with the construction completion targeted for late 2028.

In March last year, SoHum Health received $500,000 grant to enhance Covid-19 outreach and improve the health of the residents of the region.

The California Department of Public Health, Physicians for a Healthy California, and the Centre for Care Innovations awarded the Covid-19 Test-To-Treat Equity Grant to Rural Health Clinics in order to expand patient support, boost testing and treatment capability, and eliminate hurdles to care access.

SoHum Health will use this award to extend mobile clinic services to new locations, provide free home tests, hold outreach events, and streamline internal procedures related to vaccine, testing, and treatment choices.
