South Island Orthopedics expands into Far Rockaway, New York

The expanded programme will provide services for orthopaedic surgery patients.

Health Plus Management (HPM) has supported the expansion of its supported practice South Island Orthopedics (SIO) in Far Rockaway, New York, US, in partnership with St. John's Episcopal Hospital, expanding its orthopaedic services.

This is the fourth site for SIO and is located next to the hospital.

Headed by experienced surgeon Dr Paul J Kubiak, the programme will provide services for orthopaedic surgery patients.

Dr Kubiak will also become the chief of orthopaedic surgery at St. John's Episcopal Hospital. He will work alongside Dr Jean Simon, who will be the director of therapy and rehabilitation services.

The duo will work with a team of physical therapists, social workers, and case managers to offer care to patients before and after their orthopaedic procedures.

SIO managing partner Eric Freeman said: “With Health Plus Management's support, we've been able to rapidly grow our practice and services to better serve our communities and provide the dedicated care our patients deserve.

“This expansion exemplifies our commitment and ability to deliver personalised, top-tier orthopaedic care to the community.

“Dr Kubiak's leadership will undoubtedly elevate the quality of healthcare services available in Far Rockaway.”

St. John's Hospital is said to be the only full-service hospital in the Rockaway area, with more than 400 physicians and more than 1,500 staff.

HPM helps SIO with administrative tasks so that it can focus on patient care.

Patient consumerism is gaining momentum

Healthcare is evolving from a ‘doctor knows best’ mentality to a patient-doctor relationship where the patient takes an active role in making informed healthcare decisions. Patients can have more of a say in their healthcare decisions because they have access to information through various means, including the literature, the internet, and more recently, different types of connected medical devices. With the rise of mobile health applications, wearable technologies, and telemedicine, patients are well-situated to gain medical information, and ultimately make the best choices for their health.
