Work on a paediatric super-speciality hospital in Prayagraj, India, is reported to be near completion.

The new facility at SRN Hospital aims to improve healthcare services for children in the region by providing state-of-the-art treatment, allowing families to receive paediatric care without needing to travel to other cities.

The six-storey building has cost around Rs2.5bn ($33m) and is due to be operational by the end of September this year, when its ownership will be formally transferred to MLNMC officials.

Once completed, the facility will have 250 beds for children and offer 24-hour outpatient services.

Essential installations such as wiring and fire hydrant points are currently being finalised at the site.

The Hindustan Times reported that the facility's construction began in 2019 and was due to take two years, but faced delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Man Singh is in charge of construction management at the hospital and said that its construction would provide 'better treatment facilities' for children in Prayagraj and several nearby districts.

The new hospital will incorporate the services of the existing Sarojini Naidu Children’s Hospital, which is currently operating beyond its capacity.

It will feature a central pathology, operation theatres, automatic ventilators, a modular kitchen and a modern laundry system.

Concurrently to the hospital's development, SRN Hospital is upgrading its water supply infrastructure.

A new water tank with a 300,000l capacity is nearly complete and will connect all wards, operating theatres, the pathology department, trauma centre and toilets to a fresh pipeline system, ensuring an improved and reliable water supply for the entire hospital.

Once this has been completed, a new pipeline will connect both the old and new water tanks.
