US-based non-profit independent health care system Stamford Health has re-introduced a palliative care programme at the Carl & Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center.

Financed in part by the Kanarek Family Foundation and Robin Bennett Kanarek, the new programme will expand on the existing palliative care offerings.

It offers comprehensive care for patients with serious illnesses, aiming to relieve pain and symptoms.

Stamford Health palliative care medical director Sherry Ng said: “Our expert palliative care providers create a layer of support to improve quality of life and help patients manage all facets of living with a serious illness.

“Palliative care is such an important part of the patient experience.

“Our new programme ensures our patients receive comprehensive care across the inpatient and outpatient setting.”

Headed by Sherry Ng, the programme is said to include a team of experienced doctors and nurse practitioners who specialise in pain management and support for patients dealing with serious illnesses.

It provides various services, such as symptom relief, advanced care planning, and emotional support.

Stamford Health collaborated with Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center in developing this programme.

Stamford Health spiritual care manager ReBecca Sala said: “Spiritual care is unique for each individual.

“Everyone deserves peace, healing, and support as they go through treatment.

“Our team of chaplains supports all our patients, with a special focus on palliative care patients. Our team hopes to improve their mental, physical, and spiritual health.”
