The company aims to address the rising rates of anxiety, depression and suicidality in young people.

US-based psychiatric care provider Talkiatry has expanded its US coverage by launching its child and adolescent psychiatry (CAP) services in Minnesota, Oregon, Wisconsin, Louisiana and Alabama.

The services are now available in 31 US states and serve a total of 58 million patients aged younger than 18 years.

Through this expansion, Talkiatry intends to address the rising rates of anxiety, depression and suicidality among young people.

The company also aims to counter the severe shortage of child and adolescent psychiatrists, which is more pronounced in rural areas.

The company's model involves extended appointment times for young patients, active involvement of parents in the treatment process, and coordination with schools and legal guardians.

Talkiatry child and adolescent psychiatry director Dr Illese Perlumutter said: "Our youth are in crisis.

"As the first generations to grow up with social media, issues like body dissatisfaction, social comparison, low self-esteem, and disordered eating behaviours are skyrocketing.

"We have a responsibility to the generations that follow us to provide the care, support and treatment they need.

"Talkiatry is committed to a continued expansion of its child and adolescent practice, and to reaching kids and families in underserved regions and communities."

Talkiatry's services are covered by more than 60 in-network providers and more than 300 full-time, licensed psychiatrists.

The company's psychiatrists treat patients younger than 18 years while involving parents in the care plan of their children.

Talkiatry co-founder and CEO Robert Krayn said: "For young people whose minds are still developing, early intervention and evidence-based care models can prevent mental health conditions from deteriorating to the point of crisis.

"Virtual child and adolescent care, offered nationally by specialty trained physicians, is a beacon of hope for families who have struggled to find a highly qualified provider or postponed treatment.

"We look forward to serving more communities in the months and years ahead."
