Tilak Healthcare has secured €10m ($10.52m) in a financing round led by Elaia and Cap Horn to strengthen its ophthalmological telemedicine solution.

Existing investors iBionext and SWEN Capital Partners joined the round, along with Théa, Adelie, and various other ophthalmologists and businesses.

The new capital takes the funds raised by Tilak Healthcare since its inception in 2016 to €22m.

Tilak plans to use the proceeds to expedite the launch of its CE-marked medical device OdySight in France and across the globe.

A remote monitoring system for ophthalmic conditions, OdySight has a gaming interface to aid in remotely analysing age-associated vision problems.

The company also plans to advance the development of novel offerings for other ailments with the funding.

Under an extended partnership with European ophthalmology laboratory Théa, Tilak Healthcare will roll out OdySight.

Clipperton served as the financial advisor of Tilak Healthcare as part of the investment round.

Tilak Healthcare chair, CEO, and co-founder Edouard Gasser said: “We are very proud to announce this fundraising round and to welcome new investors specialising in digital technologies and healthcare, alongside our long-standing partners who have continued to place their trust in us.

“All our investors share our ambition of revolutionising ophthalmological care through digital technologies and video games, helping to address some of the problems all healthcare systems around the world are facing.”

Healthcare companies are hesitant to invest in the metaverse

Although metaverse technologies could reinvent healthcare approaches and bring new experiences to healthcare providers and patients, adoption is still at an early stage. There are currently few use cases in the healthcare industry. The metaverse needs to overcome major challenges for healthcare, including regulation and data privacy concerns. Evidence of proven use cases and participation by a critical mass of users are imperative to drive a shift in metaverse investment.
