Children's Health Paediatric health care system in North Texas, US, has opened a new patient tower at Children's Medical Center Plano.
The 395,000ft² facility is set to triple the bed capacity at the campus, enhancing access to specialised paediatric care across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and beyond.
Located in Collin County, the new tower brings an additional 140 universal and intensive care unit (ICU)-capable inpatient beds, raising the total to 212.
The expansion also nearly double the size of the emergency room, adding 48 exam rooms to prepare for the establishment of a Level II trauma centre.
The new tower also houses advanced imaging and radiology capabilities, as well as expanded ultrasound and X-ray equipment.
This enhancement is crucial for the hospital's mission to provide comprehensive care for its young patients.
Children’s Health chief market executive Vanessa Walls said: “From advanced technology to nature-inspired design, every element was created with our patients and families in mind.
“The new tower enables us to provide increased access and enhanced care for patients and their families in the heart of their own communities.”
The growth of the campus extends to speciality care programmes such as oncology, cardiology, gastroenterology, and more.
It also includes the co-location of the outpatient and inpatient services of the Pauline Allen Gill Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
This expansion provides access to heart centre outpatient services, as well as the Children's Health Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
Digital integration is a key feature of the new tower, improving both inpatient and outpatient experiences. Bedside tablets, digital signage, and a digital front door will help to streamline care.
In addition, a microgrid has been installed to ensure uninterrupted care during power outages.
The tower's design focuses on creating a serene environment, with each floor inspired by local Texas habitats, complete with native plants and animal themes.
The 180-acre campus also offers outdoor balconies, green spaces, and grazing horses, all contributing to a tranquil atmosphere for patients, families, and staff.
