The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has rolled out a new programme, called the ‘UAE Global Hospitals Programme’, to construct up to ten hospitals across the globe.

The programme involves an investment of approximately Dh550m ($149m) and has been launched as part of the Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative, which was announced by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in March this year.

It has been designed to bridge global critical healthcare gaps.

Each of the hospital planned to be constructed under this initiative will focus on addressing healthcare needs and enhancing medical access for underserved communities.

The construction on the first of these ten facilities, the 'UAE-Indonesia Hospital for Cardiac Diseases', is currently underway in Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia.

Expected to be complete later this year, this hospital will provide essential cardiac care to thousands, marking a significant step in the UAE's commitment to global health equity and international cooperation.

The programme's investment in the UAE-Indonesia Hospital for Cardiac Diseases is particularly crucial, as heart disease remains a leading cause of death and disability in Indonesia.

By improving access to specialised healthcare, the UAE aims to alleviate the burden of heart disease and other health conditions affecting the region.

Emirates News Agency – WAM quoted International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council chair H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as saying: “Under the guidance of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, we are honoured to reinforce our dedication to the UAE’s enduring mission of improving global health.

“Over the coming decade, this initiative will drive meaningful change, embodying our commitment to assisting the underserved and enhancing the wellbeing and dignity of communities worldwide.”

The UAE Global Hospitals Programme, under the guidance of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, will focus on tailoring each hospital to the specific healthcare needs of the local population.

The initiative comes as part of the UAE’s efforts to support institutions and projects that deliver aid, address inequality, and promote sustainable development.
