Medical imaging IT and cybersecurity company Sectra’s One Cloud service will be used by Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) in the UK.

Sectra will deliver a fully managed Cloud service to BHRUT, taking responsibility for monitoring, optimising and upgrading the system, as well as offering round-the-clock support.

This move is set to improve the existing collaboration between the hospitals by providing a unified platform for medical imaging, which is expected to enhance workflow efficiency and reduce costs.

BHRUT interim chief digital transformation officer David Newey said: “We cooperate extensively with Homerton to ensure the patients in our region receive timely care, and therefore see huge benefits of further facilitating that collaboration.

“By having a joint Sectra solution, our radiologists will have immediate access to each other’s images and patient data, which will make it easier for us to collaborate around patient cases.”

This scalable and modular solution is designed to accommodate growth in service volumes and potential expansion into other specialities.

Newey added: “As Sectra takes responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the system, the resilience of the service we provide to our patients will improve, whilst our maintenance overhead will be reduced.”

The contract for Sectra One Cloud was signed in the second quarter of Sectra's 2024/2025 fiscal year, with BHRUT initially using the modules for radiology and breast imaging.

Sectra UK and Ireland managing director Jane Rendall said: “An increasing number of hospitals are transitioning to cloud-based solutions to enhance security and reduce IT burdens. This shift addresses the widespread challenge of shortages in IT staff required to manage hospital systems.”

BHRUT has been utilising Sectra's radiology solution since 2015.

The Sectra One Cloud service is also used by Belgian hospitals AZ Sint Jan and AZ Sint Lucas, under an agreement signed in June 2023.
