US-based Urology of Virginia has announced the appointment of Dr Joshua Langston as the new managing partner and chief executive officer (CEO), effective 1 January.

Dr Langston has taken over this role from his predecessor Dr Jennifer Miles-Thomas.

Dr Langston finished medical school at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, followed by residency training at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

He also finished a fellowship in andrology and male reconstructive urology at the Institute of Urology in London, UK.

As the medical director of Men's Health Virginia, a division of Urology of Virginia, Dr Langston and his team serve to address the health needs of ageing men.

With an interest in health policy and advocacy, Dr Langston presently serves as the chair of the Political Affairs Committee for the Large Urology Group Practice Association.

He earlier served as the American Urological Association (AUA) Holtgrewe Legislative Fellow, contributing his time as a health policy legislative adviser in the US Senate.

Furthermore, he acts as the chair of the Health Policy Committee of the Mid-Atlantic AUA and serves in the Public Policy Council and Legislative Affairs Committees of the AUA.

He is also on the board of directors for the American Society for Men's Health.

Commenting on the transition, Dr Miles-Thomas said: “Dr Langston has a long history with our organisation and is well-equipped to lead us into an even brighter future.”

Dr Langston said: 'It is truly an honour to be selected by my partners for this role. Urology of Virginia has a 100-year history of being a national leader in innovative, patient-centered care and research.

“I look forward to working together with my colleagues to cast a vision for growth and evolution in the face of a changing national healthcare paradigm that will allow us to continue to serve our community for another 100 years."

Urology of Virginia has been providing urological care in the Hampton Roads region, including the northeastern part of North Carolina for over a century.

Its clinical team comprises more than 30 board-certified urologists, offering specialised care in oncology, urologic reconstruction, stone disease, and andrology.

Its care providers train the next generation of urologists at the department of urology at Eastern Virginia Medical School while the Urology of Virginia Research Division participates in trials.

Urology of Virginia’s charitable arm Schellhammer Urological Research Foundation provides funding for research and community care.
