US-based healthcare services provider Valley Health System has launched a Glaucoma Center of Excellence at Valley Medical Group ophthalmology practice in New Jersey.
The facility is located at 1200 East Ridgewood Avenue and is led by ophthalmologist Tanya Fooks.
The centre aims to provide robust diagnosis and treatment for patients suffering from glaucoma, a condition known for damaging the optic nerve and potentially causing vision loss or blindness.
As timely interventions can significantly reduce the risk of vision impairment, the facility will focus on consistent monitoring and timely introduction of medical treatments to protect patients' sight.
Glaucoma can affect individuals of any age, although it is more prevalent among older adults.
The Glaucoma Center of Excellence is equipped to handle advanced cases, offering both traditional and minimally invasive procedures.
The range of conditions treated at the centre is comprehensive, including glaucoma suspect, primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), secondary glaucoma, low-tension glaucoma, various forms of angle-closure glaucoma, steroid-induced glaucoma, ocular hypertensive disorder, pseudo-exfoliative glaucoma, and pigment dispersion glaucoma.
Dr Fooks said: “We offer multidisciplinary care that combines treatment with highly personalised service from our staff, including a patient navigator who will coordinate each patient’s care and answer all questions before, during, and after appointments.
“With our seamless coordination of care, we can make scheduling and receiving care simpler and easier for patients while reducing the timeline and bringing sight-saving advances to patients.”
In March this year, Valley Health System announced plans to open a new hospital in Paramus, New Jersey.
The 370-bed Valley Hospital is designed to meet the needs of patients, their families, and healthcare staff, featuring single-patient rooms, an expanded emergency department strategically located for quick access to diagnostic and surgical services, and larger operating rooms.
