WakeMed Health & Hospitals in Raleigh, North Carolina, has entered a three-year enterprise agreement with artificial intelligence (AI) clinical platform Regard to improve clinical documentation.

By the end of this year, WakeMed plans to implement Regard's AI-driven tool across its three acute care hospitals in Raleigh.

The partnership aims to improve the quality of documentation, reduce the administrative load on physicians and raise the standard of patient care.

WakeMed also intends to enhance patient safety across its facilities through the use of Regard's solutions.

Regard's technology uses exclusive algorithms and AI to create clinical insights, optimising workflows and patient care without increasing clinicians' workloads.

The company's AI solution autonomously and securely reviews all clinical data for each patient, bringing critical insights to the forefront.

It is intended to allow physicians to spend more face-to-face time with patients and offer the best quality care than navigating electronic health records, making notes and assessing clinical data.

The initiative is expected to lead to more accurate diagnoses, make care transitions more smooth and improve medication safety.

Regard chief operating officer and co-founder Nate Wilson said: “We are thrilled to integrate Regard's capabilities throughout all WakeMed hospitals to improve patient care by surfacing critical information that exists within the EMR.

In March last year, WakeMed announced plans to construct a 150-bed mental health and wellness hospital in Garner, North Carolina.

WakeMed received $12m in government grants to build the facility, which could potentially open to patients in 2026.
