The 373-bed Wynn Hospital in downtown Utica, New York, US, has opened with an investment of $481.4m.

Located on 25 acres, this facility was partially funded via a $300m grant from the New York State Department of Health’s Health Care Facility Transformation Program.

The ten-storey, 373-bed, 702,000ft² hospital will improve medical care accessibility and, accommodate 90,000 annual visits.

The hospital offers services, including coronary, intensive, maternity, neonatal, medical/surgical, paediatric, and psychiatric care.

It includes an open-core nursing unit, a large emergency department, and a birthing centre with access to elevators from the emergency department.

Announcing the completion of the hospital, New York Governor Kathy Hochul said: “This is an exciting day for the people of Utica and the region as we mark the next step forward in modern, accessible healthcare coverage for this community.

“The state-of-the-art facility is an investment in the well-being of the region and will ensure that every resident has access to critical medical services when they need it most.”

Designed as an urban park with lighting, trees, walkways and seating areas, the hospital has a helipad near the emergency department entrance.

Alongside government funding, the project secured financial support from diverse quarters, including $150m in financing from the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) and $31.38m in cash equity.

New York State Department of Health Commissioner Dr James V McDonald said: “With support from Governor Hochul and our Department’s Health Care Facility Transformation Program, the opening of this new hospital not only brings expanded medical services, enhanced patient engagement and greater access to high-quality health care, it’s also part of a community renaissance that will continue to improve the health and well-being of all Mohawk Valley residents.”
