Global medical device company EOS imaging has installed its fourth EOS system at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City, US.
HSS is claimed to be the world’s largest academic medical center focused on musculoskeletal health. It carried out over 33,000 surgical procedures per year.
The EOS system offers low dose, full body, stereo-radiographic images of a patient in a functional position.
It is designed around a vertically traveling arm supporting two image acquisition systems mounted at right angles. Each acquisition system features an X-ray tube and a linear detector.
Several departments of HSS that offer EOS imaging solutions include Lerner Children’s Pavilion, Department of Radiology and Imaging, Caspary Research Building, and the Westchester regional facility.
HSS spine surgeon and chief of pediatric orthopedic surgery Roger Widmann said: “Patients come to HSS from more than 80 countries and all 50 of the United States because we deliver the most advanced diagnosis, treatment and care for even the most complex cases, so it’s important that we continue to lead also in low dose imaging.

By GlobalData“Over the years, the value of low-dose imaging has been appreciated by an increasingly broad spectrum of our specialists and patients, compelling us to increase access with a fourth installation which is also the first at an HSS location other than our main campus in New York City.”
Founded in 1863, HSS is the oldest orthopedic hospital in the US. It performs more hip surgeries and more knee replacements than any other hospital in the country.
EOS imaging has more than 300 system installations in over 30 countries generating in excess of one million patient exams a year. The company reported revenue of €35.3m in 2018.
Earlier this year, EOS imaging announced installation of the first EOS system in the UAE, located at King’s College Hospital in Dubai.
