A new feature of the Vascular Explorer has been released by enverdis: the measurement of pulse wave velocity (PWV) and augmentation index (AIx) in a sitting position.
Results of a study made in the
University Duisburg-Essen,
Department of Nephrology,
have shown that there is a very
low variability between measurements
in sitting and supine positions.
In conclusion, measurement in
a sitting position is possible.
Only one cuff needs to be applied
either at the left or right arm.
Moreover the distance between
sternal notch and pubic bone has
to be determined. In this way an
even shorter time and less space
are needed for the examination.
The measurement in a sitting position supports the diagnosis of PWV carotid-femoral, AIx brachial and AIx aortic. In comparison with a supine position, only the PWV brachial-ankle is not determined. Thus, patients with blood pressure problems can be identified easily as well.
